The veteran actor has signed up to star in and produce the new film Ghetto Cowboy based on the 2011 novel by Greg Neri.
Here’s a plot summary via Shadow and Act:
15-year-old Cole is forced to live with his estranged father Harp (Elba) in North Philadelphia, where, despite the surrounding poverty and violence, he discovers the redemptive world of urban horseback riding.
The film pays homage to the black horse riding communities in north Philadelphia, who the film’s creators worked with in order to bring the story to life. “This story was built out of a deep friendship and collaboration with the riders of North Philly, and I couldn’t be more excited to honor their legacy with this film,” said the film’s director Ricky Staub.
“Ricky and Dan’s brilliant script combines the energy and grit of an urban movie with the poetry and romance of the urban cowboy way of life,” said Elba of the upcoming film.
Elba has also been in the news, as it’s being reported that producers might be considering him for the role of play James Bond after all. But for now, we’ll just have to wait and see.
