In line of their careers, every artist markets themselves to the public in a unique way. We have those who just let their music speak for them and take the minimalistic approach. Others prescribe to following the trends to stay relevant. Some exude a “bad boy” or “bad girl” edge.
Then there are the ones that just ooze sensuality. They speak about topics many of us are afraid to engage in. They are not afraid to be risky and daring – whether it be calculated or not.
Now, let us talk about eight musicians who push the sexual envelope and care less about what you think; see if your favorite made the list:
Teyana Taylor came back on the scene by displaying her superbly athletic body in Kanye West’s 2016 video for “Fame.”
Since then, she’s dropped her own album titled K.T.S.E (Keep That Same Energy). Taylor is currently on tour promoting her album and her shows leave little to the imagination.
Rapper Cardi B has no qualms discussing her past as a stripper. She used her past as a major stepping stone to what she deems as greater and that is why her come up story resonates with many.
The Bronxite gained popularity on Instagram by displaying her no-nonsense attitude, then she won a spot on VH1’s Love & Hip Hop reality show which she used as an opportunity to propel her to the top.
“Look, I don’t dance now, I make money moves” she raps in “Bodak Yellow.” Nevertheless, you can still see her display a little ‘booty popping” when she performs.
Niniola Apata otherwise known as Niniola is a Nigerian songwriter and singer.
Her career took off in 2013 after she appeared on Project Fame West Africa.
As Pulse Nigeria put it, “Niniola knows that sex sells, and this she is clearly selling without inhibitions, and even though she is not the first to latch on our human cravings in promoting her songs, she is perhaps the best at openly concealing it.”
Tiwa Savage is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, actress and performer. You may have heard her voice on tracks from Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan and Blu Cantrell.
And she is multi-faceted too. Savage has earned degrees from the University of Kent and Berklee College of Music.
In 2012, Savage scored a record deal with Mavin Records. She’s been so successful that in 2016, she gained a management and distribution deal with Roc Nation.
What makes Savage charming is not only her vocal range and seemingly gracious personality, it is also her flirtatious and cute way of exuding sensuality without being obnoxious and overt.
The Bajan beauty and singer came into the music scene displaying a demure image.
However, she soon realized that she wasn’t being her self and soon the “Good Girl Gone Bad” singer released a new image for the world to see.
Robyn Rihanna Fenty, as she was named at birth is not afraid to convey her emotions towards love, sex, intimacy and heartbreak in her music and imagery. She’s strong and her sexual nature comes across just as fiercely as she intends it to.
Chinedu Okoli, Flavour N’abania or Flavour is a Nigerian rapper, singer, multi-instrumentalist and performer.
Not only is Flavour a big believer in his own music and brand, he also loves to show his physical attributes.
He confirmed his sex symbol status by telling Vanguard in 2015, “If I am not doing music, I love to walk out and when I do that, I am confident enough to show my body on my social media accounts. If you call me a sex symbol, you are not lying. I feel it is a good thing for people to believe in themselves and be confident. I believe in hard work and it shows in my music and the way I walk out at the gym. I exercise a lot and take out time to keep fit and maintain my physique.”
Sauti Sol is a Kenyan Afro-pop band that released their critically acclaimed album titled Mwanzo in 2008.
Since, the group has worked with successful artists such as Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Spoek Mathambo, Patoranking and Tiwa Savage.
The band has also gotten the opportunity to be included in tours in Africa and Europe.
The band totally upped their sex quotient when they released Melanin, an odd to dark skin tones featuring Patoranking.
Vanessa Hau Mdee also referred to as Vee Money is a Tanzanian singer, recording artist, songwriter, youth activist, TV and radio host.
Mdee’s background is eclectic in that she had the opportunity to travel and school in New York, Paris and Nairobi, Kenya.
Becoming a Video Jockey (VJ) and TV host has afforded her the opportunity to encounter numerous international and African acts such as French Montana, Kelly Rowland and Burna Boy.
In 2012, she began her musical journey and has released one studio album dubbed Money Mondays.
Mdee never forgets to up the sexual charge in her videos such as “Move” with Reekado Banks, “Wet” featuring Gnako and “Just Like That” featuring Orezi.
